All About You Features

The Party is still going on, it'll stay open until Friday so keep posting your costumes or any craft project you have.  I wanted to highlight a few but go check all of them out, there are some very talented ladies out here in blogland.

First how cute would your monkey be as a traffic stop light for Halloween?  This would be great to even use year round for games and learning colors.  Mag at Craft with Me sells them in her Esty store.

I just love Lemon Tree Creations, she has great stuff in her Esty store, awesome tutorials on her blog, and she's just so talented and I love this Cupcake Costume she shows us how to make, what's even greater is it's NO SEW!  Hello, speaking my language here.

And because every Super Hero needs a mask, Susan at Living with Punks is showing us how we can make our own Bat Masks. I know quite a few little monkies that would love to have one of these masks to play dress up in!

Keep those costume posts coming and don't forget to enter to win the Halloween Party Package!

Happy Tuesday Ya'll.

  • Come back next week where the theme is All About Pumpkins and Pumkin Patches
To me the most exciting thing about Halloween is coming up with the costume for that year.  I can not really sew to save my life but I also don't want to buy a costume from warehouse type store.  I like costumes to be unique and homemade, even if it's decorating a cut out box, I enjoy that over a store bought costume any day.  But since I can't really sew I am limited on what I can make.  (I should really take some sewing lessons.)
This year Poppa and I won't be dressing up, just Monkey and I usually do 2 costumes for her, one for her to wear to school and then one for going to festivals and trick or treating.  I won't reveal her costumes for this year yet but I will show you what I've made in the past as well as some orders I've done and sent out in the past few weeks.
Her first Halloween she was just a few days shy of being 3 months old.  I made her a chicken costume and we went as Farm Living.  I just attached white feather boas to a onesie and hat, dyed white tights yellow, and made her feet out of kitchen cleaning gloves.
She's not crying, she's just clucking. :)

Last year for Halloween she went as Snow White to school and then Poppa and I were outlaws and she was the Sheriff.

You will have to please excuse and forgive the poor picture quality, most of these were taken with a camera phone or a crappy point and shoot, don't worry I'm getting an SLR soon!

Prior to having Monkey we always dressed our Fur Baby up for Halloween.  The first year he went as a Turkey and won 1st prize at Petsmart and got a free groom and gift certificate.

The next year we dressed Maximus and my Nana's dog Dantes up as Thing 1 and Thing 2 in the nation wide Pet Co contest online and they won first prize, a year supply of dog food!

And here is a Pumpkin Princess and Ghost Princess I did for a customer.  She's adding a white onesie with googlie eye and white leggings to the Ghost Princess to make it complete and she's adding an orange onesie and green leggings to the Pumpkin Princess to make it complete.  I also have a ladybug, poodle, peacock, skunk, and another snow white in the works for customer orders so if you are needing one email me for a custom costume!

So let me see your Halloween costumes, past or present, ideas, or suggestions.  And don't forget next week is all about the pumpkins and pumkin patches.

Happy Monday Ya'll.

Halloween Costumes

Friday for her school party I decided monkey would go as snow white.  I was very pleased with how the costume came out.  I saw a few snow white's around town and at the festival on Saturday and was so glad I made her's instead of store bought.

To Make This Costume:
I dyed a white onesie blue,
Added flowers and beaded trim,
Make the tutu skirt and bow and
Add ribbon to her cape.
The school party was fun, they danced around, played games, and ate lots of fruit and veggies and cupcakes.  We don't give monkey cookies, cakes, juice, stuff like that so as they served her some, she reached for the fruit and veggies.  That's my girl.
Enjoy the pics.
Her snow white costume

Snow white being tempted to eat the apple. :)

Sorry about the poor quality of pics, they were taken with my phone.

As a Family Poppa and I were outlaws and Monkey was the Princess Sheriff.

We had lots of fun, what did you dress up as?

What Will You Be?

Two more days til Halloween fun!  I start planning our costumes around June of every year.  I'm not sure why as I still wait until the last minute to actually make them.  My goal is to do something easy but fun and not commercialized and something that I don't think is going to be very popular.  I may buy certain pieces to put the whole thing together but I prefer to not buy a store bought costume.  I have however rented costumes before because they are authentic and believable.  I don't go crazy all out but I do put effort and thought into it.
I keep getting messages and emails asking what the monkey is going to be this year.  Early on I had decided that she and I would go as flappers and Poppa and Maximus would go as a 20's gangster. Oh did I not mention that I dress my dog up as well? :)  I already had his and my costume from a few years back so I would just need to make her's.  Easy Peasy.  Then the stores starting coming out with their costumes and guess what costume the major chains were showcasing? Yep Flappers.  So that nixed that idea.
Let me tell you, coming up with an additional idea nearly caused panic attacks.  I mean I'm trying to start a tradition where we all dress up in a theme as a family that includes the dog, something that makes the monkey stand out, doesn't embarrass Momma and Poppa, and that I can do with little to no sewing or spending $, and that is not going to be the same as every one else.  Wow do I box myself in or what?
Then I get a letter from her school that they are having a Fall/Halloween party on Friday, need me to bring a bag of candy and sign up for something to make/bring and since it's a Christian school, no little witches, mummies, monsters, devils, etc, and no props like swords, wands, masks, etc.  Talk about really boxing one in uh? :)
Well what's my plan?  Sign up for home made cupcakes of course and do 2 different costumes, one for her to wear to school and one for her to wear with our family theme on Sat.  Oh and let's still wait til the last minute to do it all. Why do I love to torture myself so?
So after changing my mind on the family costume about a zillion times, including as late as Monday, I've finally got it all figured out and worked on her school costume hoping to finish it last night so that I could do the cupcakes tonight and our family costume Fri night only to mess up her school costume and have to go out on my lunch break and get the supplies to redo what I messed up which means tonight finish that and do the cupcakes yes I realize I just wrote about 4 run on sentences, don't judge me I'm tired and mad at myself. :)
I am not revealing the costumes until they are finished but I thought it would be fun to view past Halloween costumes.  Stay tuned tomorrow for her 1st costume reveal, I'm taking a half day so that I can go and volunteer and be at her very 1st school party and then Sat come back to see us on Halloween.
Happy Halloween everyone. Oh and can you believe my monkey will be 15 months on the 1st? Wow.
I can't wait to see everyone's posts in all their costume glory.

This was our freshman year in college, we'd been dating a few months, my Nana made us these genie costumes.
